Rain moistens, nourishes, cools, and floods. It falls as a treasure or a threat and inspires us with its poetry. The workshop *Regen(e)Ration* combines personal experiences with nature observation, science, activism, poetry, and art.
The workshop is hosted by artist Regina Hügli, who practices rainwater harvesting at her “Haus am Urmeer” on Vienna’s Bisamberg. The Bisamberg, on the northern edge of Vienna, is a biodiversity hotspot featuring a fragmented mosaic of oak-hornbeam forests, downy oak dry forests, steppe grasslands, vineyards, and orchards.
Rainwater is a vital resource for cultivating the gardens on the mountain’s arid slopes. Fossils, as well as sand and clay sediments in the soil—overlaid by fertile, glacial loess layers—bear witness to the area’s maritime past.
The local water stories serve as an inspiring backdrop for the writing workshop, narrated by host Regina Hügli. The multidisciplinary artist and water activist has been exploring the theme of water for twelve years and, through the association One Body of Water in Vienna and internationally, advocates for a deeper understanding of the interconnections surrounding water.
Art historian, author, and writing instructor Brigitta Höpler brings the poetry of rain into her writing prompts, drawing inspiration from nature, art, and literature. Writing as a way of perceiving the world, as an experience of language and self. Some words flow onto the page, others drip slowly. A dance of letters between word and place.
