We perceive water as one single, large body – a body of water that circulates through the atmosphere, the earth and through all life forms, connecting organic with inorganic.
The body of water is in constant motion and transformation, dynamically transmitting information and active forces to all interconnected vessels and waterways.
This vision of interconnectedness of ONE BODY OF WATER stands in contrast to anthropocentric visions of separateness, or notions of control and dominance. The association aims to make the vision of interconnectedness the guiding principle for action and thus for the creation of new realities.
ONE BODY OF WATER serves impulses and projects that advocate a respectful and sustainable treatment of water, and create awareness for the fundamental interconnectedness of all lifeforms.
The association organises workshops and exhibitions embracing art, science and applied knowledge of diverse fields of expertise. Thus it co-creates a flourishing network in behalf of water, fostering interdisciplinary exchange and offering a variety of approaches to connect to water. ONE BODY OF WATER is member of the Global Network of Water Museums.
ONE BODY OF WATER was founded in 2022 in Vienna, Austria, by the Swiss photographer and artist Regina Hügli. She has been working on the topic of water with great commitment since 2013 and has realized a large number of projects, exhibitions, events and publications. In 2023 Regina Hügli was awarded the Austrian Neptun State Price for Water in Arts.
“I am a dedicated observer of water. I am fascinated by its appearance, its behaviour, its properties. Water is the basis of all life – and an element offering powerful experiences to our bodies and minds like tranquility, flow and rhythm, transformation and renewal, thus making tangible various qualities of time and consciousness.
Observing water has a great impact on my personal approach. My fascination with the element has also heightened my awareness of the responsibility we have to water and life – expressing itself in an increasingly activist and social dimension of my projects.”
